My axle code is a 42
corrct me if I am wrong that means I have an open rear with 4:10's

would it even be worth it for me to swap it out for a D4 or a D2 limited slip ?

My Ex is all street. and I have zero problems with spinning.

I am more currious tyhan any thing else.

What would be a quicker gear 3.73 or 4.10 ?

4.10s are quicker off the line...

3.73s would do better in high horepower liek on the freeway, but you wouldnt see the gain unless you were going way faster than an explroer would ever see

cool, thanks guys.
Really it was just a random thought

I don't think that it would be worth the expense in doing a swap.

I am just running out of projects :(

I say work on the interior buddy ;)

in the process Todd

Hey Monman, Doug (aka Bamachips) sent me this link a few weeks ago re: axle codes for Rangers. Same as Explorers I guess.

I have the same setup. Once again, our Explorers are very similar. ;)

Keep in mind changing the rear end ratio would also require changing the front axle ratio too = $$$

(Assuming your 4x4, I remember you mentioning a brown wire mod somewhere)

Definatly stick with the 4:10's as they are a great gear for an auto, I use them in all of my racing Ranger's as well. Something that doesn't require alot of money and really gives great results as far as differentials go is the Power Trax lockers. It is also an easy installation as you just remove the center of your open differential and replace it with the PowerTrax unit, no special tools or adjustments of any depths or backlash.

Alot of Ranger guys use them and even some change their factory differetials to them. Check them out here...

Thanks, Doug.

P.S. Celly, just scroll down the page and you'll see the listing for Explorer rear codes ;)
