Rear liftgate handle replacement

Great site! Been lurking here for a while and learned a bunch of stuff. I searched and could not find what I was looking for so starting a new thread.

01 Sport

Rear liftgate handle is inoperable. It is as if there is no tension on it and it will not release. The glass will open, but the handle itself will not open the liftgate. The handle just flaps but does not pull on anything. Yes, the doors are unlocked.

I spoke to the dealer and they diagnosed it needed Ford Part#F58Z1643400A at retail $30.53. They quoted me nearly $200 for the install. I think this is something I can do myself, but need some guidance.

It doesn't seem too complicated, but lookin for advice before I start taking things apart.

I would say pick up a Haynes book. That wil get you all info you need to disassemble the lift gate handle

Thanks, have the Haynes and it does look pretty straight forward for removing the handle.... just looking for actual advice and direction from those who have done this.

Do you think this part will solve the problem or will I need to adjust furhter rods and lock mechanisms?
