I need to do rear pads and rotors on my 2005 Explorer...any special tools I will need? I haven't had a good look at it yet.

Nope, very easy.

Don't remember the size of the two bolts to free the caliper, but it was a standard wrench size, maybe 13 or 15mm or so.

Takes all of 10 minutes a side.

Oops - just noticed that you said rotors, too. Are you replacing or resurfacing? That should make no difference and yes, they just pop off, too - EXCEPT - and this is the big except - your e-brake shoes are inside the rotor inner hat and can hang up on the inner surface edge, making them a bit tougher to remove - you may want to have the brake tool for backing off the star wheel to get them free.

I think my Ebrake isnt connected. It dont stop me for ****...

I just did this, it was my first brake job, and it wasn't hard. I was confused with a couple of things, like the C clamp to push the caliper back in, but as soon as i seen it, it all made sense.

The longest part for me was jacking my truck up. Felt like it was going to tip over on me so I redid it a couple times.

No special tools I can think of except a C-clamp. Also, when you push the caliper in, keep going until you cannot go anymore. I made the mistake of going only halfway and it ####ed me up a little. Other then that, no problem.

ok thanks. i just wanted to make sure i didn't have to screw in the caliper pistons, like on my mark viii. i'd hate to get it apart and not have any tools i might need. i don't know if the e brake has ever been used on it....i will be replacing the rotors. hopefully, it will go smoothly. this will be my first job in my new garage....i moved recently.....
thanks.

Awesome you have a garage. I had to do it on a street, sucked but I got it done.

It should go well for you. A small tip I also had is if you get a little confused, there are videos online on how to do it. Watching them sometimes help. Did for me, but your mileage may vary.

Edit: I should realllly review my posts before I hit the post button.

I did the job the other night...the local Advance store was out of rotors (computer said they had them, but there were none on the shelf), and I didn't want to let it go any longer, so I did a pad slap. One rotor slipped off pretty easilly, and the other side seemed like it would come off with a few smacks from a BFH. The rotors didn't seem too bad, but I may go back and replace them on another day. The whole process took about a half hour.
Within the next couple of weeks, I will be changing the front brakes.
