I have a 92 Explorer. The Rear passenger side window has just fallen down on its own. I think it is the window motor. I replaced the drivers side front a few months ago and it works fine. Hoping the rear passenger side will not give me that many problems. does anyone know of a good post that will show me pics on how to do this job? Thanks

it was the regulator. The cable got all knotted up in the motor. Motor is fine. Just need to replace cables

I think the whole regulator is only sold as a unit, and they are fairly expensive.

RockAuto has a couple of options

Cheapest thing there is $119 for a Dorman part, $243 for Motorcraft.

You might want to try a local wrecking yard or you-pull-it for a used one if you can get it cheap.

Same issue.. I got a 2x4 holding that window up.. Hard to justify $120 for a window opener. Not to mention the trouble it is to do the job.
Who thought of using a bicycle Brake cable to pull a window up and down should be shot.

Don't complain too much, you could own one of those Chrysler minivans that have the front windows constantly falling into the doors. You have to buy the motor and cable assembly all together, for around $300. The problem with them is the plastic pulleys fall apart, so you are really buying a whole new assembly to get a $10 piece of plastic.

Edit: Wow that $40 fix is awesome, I didn't know they even used two different types of mechanisms. (I guess that's what owning a sport will get you)

...Basically, that is it...

...The funny thing is, a lot of newer foreign and domestic vehicles have the cable systems now and they fail quicker with no options of replacement like we have...:D

I dropped a 'dime' on Kbabiak to see if he has another setup. Funny thing. I look on E-bay and they are advertizing the same regulator '91-'94. I thought I'd find '91-'92 and then another auction for '93-'94. Odd

...91-94 are the first gens but, so many parts are different from the 91-92 than what were put on the 93-94...Even haynes, chilton's, and top auto reference books have mis-information on them...

...There are stock parts on my 91 X that are different from other 91-92's...:(

...Kbabiak is the way to go...Great parts, packing, shipping, and reliable...:biggthump

My

NICE!
So in '93 and '94 Ford went back to Old School Electric windows. Basically take the crank off the Robust arm and add the motor.
So this is literally an assembly from a '93 or '94 explorer?? just so I know what I'm hunting down.

93 has a cable operated window (pass. rear) possibly a replacement door?
wewre all 93 and up supposed to be non cable. this is the only doo I've had apart.

I think ONLY THINK that in '93-'94 some were cable and some were old school depending on how early the '93 was OR kbabiak has a home grown Kit that works fine but might be from another Ford vehicle all together. I don't know, I have not have many Explorer door panels off to be educated.
