if its anything like the 2nd generation its an installation only piece. your best off removing the entire passenger side interior quater panel. there's probably a 10mm bolt in the back of your subwoofer you'll need to take out to remove the sub.

u have the screen that covers the sub? and the theres a piece that goes around that and thats plastic and it seems you can snap it off without takin the huge panel off.

i know, i broke 2 tabs on mine and then found out i needed to pull the entire interior panel. i replaced a subwoofer a few months back, if your box (91-94)is the same as my box(95-01) from the factory, you'll remove all the screws holding the sub in from the front, and still not get it out because of a 10mm bolt in the back of the magnet. you actually need to remove the whole panel to get at the screws holding the box in so you can pull the box and get at that one 10mm bolt in the back.

i know, its ghey.

cool cool ty. I knew it wasnt goin to be that easy. thank you for your input

If you are just trying to replace the sub... I know on my '93 the sub is just 6 1/2". The screen pops right out by itself providing full access to the 4 screws holding the sub in the box. If you want the whole box though, you are looking at taking the whole panel off as it runs a ways forward toward the front.

there ya go. someone with the right generation finally answered. saves you about 95% of crap i had to do.

ok great the screen does come off. any tips on how?

You just squeeze it together basically. I don't know how to explain it but it curves up around like a hook. It's a pretty simple design, borderline poor if you ask me. I guess from a side view it look something like (the period and apostrophe are there just as place holders, they aren't secret parts to the screen or something):

Also on the sides. If you just grab a side with your hands and slightly push in and pull to the side (not straight out) it should pop out. Let me know if you can't get it.

I can't locate the apostrophe on my truck. I found two ampersands, but no apostrophe. :D

Actually- That was well explained jtb. Although once those things get bent at all if you push too far, they never fit the same just be cautious removing it if you don't want to remove the rear panel- but it's not really that hard...

Well thank you sir. I have managed to remove mine and put it back time and time again without permanent bending. Just be gentle enough to remove it and you should be good. And enjoy it because door speakers are not so easy ;)

Right on- didn't mean to come off like I was questioning your manhood... :D

Oh no worries, I just wanted to be sure nobody got scared to take their's off. I didn't mean to come across as thinking you were questioning my manhood (does that sentence even make sense?). How'd it go mgmgmg?

Came right off! With no bending of the screen.... Thank you for help.

do you know where i can get the replacment Sub from?

same here? i looked on ebay but they want to sell the amp and the whole plastic piece for 150$? I just want a factory replacement sub. I quess just keep an eye on ebay...

Will a 96 EX Radio fit in a 95 EX ?

:exp:

cage, I would search around a bit and then maybe start a new thread in the audio section if you can't find an answer. Not the best thread to have this discussion in, and we'll need a lot more info about your truck and the other radio as well... More complicated answer than yes/no... :)

i ended up braking the tabs to hold in it on my 94 got impatient so now i got 2 screws one on each side holding it

I had the same problem trying to find the ever elusive 6 inch sub. Screw that crap dude! I took out my dremel and carved a hole for an 8" sub and installed a JL audio 8. much better sound and it holds up better than the stock JBL 6. It fits perfectly between the box thru bolts. Also gotta carve out the rear magnet support inside the box. I'll try to post some pics of it later.
