To make a long story as short as possible: I replaced the rear wheel bearings on our 04 AWD Mountaineer and after getting everything put back together and tightened up I noticed that both wheels still had play in them. So after further inspection I noticed that the bearings that I removed had a lip sticking out the back of the inner race about a quarter of an inch which buts up against a curved area on the stub axle, the new bearings are completely flat. So I ran to the parts store to see if they had a rear half-shaft in stock that I could look at and sure enough the one they have is flat, a completely different animal than the ones on our Mountaineer. Anyone else run into this problem before or am I the first?
