Rear windows want to go down but not up

It started off with a friend pushing the button up and down and then the window motor started making noise, but not going up. Only down. We have to push up and have someone manually slide the window up.

A few months down the road the other side did it. I took open the doors and didn't see anything wrong.

Am I missing something?

I just inherited this explorer with 3 of 4 windows doing this. Anxiously awaiting a lead on where to start fixing it. I hope the answer isn't "replace all the window motors" .... /cringe

Could be the bushings in the motor. Here's a thread I had about replacing the Driver's door bushings. There's a link to another thread on how to do it on the back windows.

The bushings are the answer. Gonna take you about an hour if you have pulled the motors before.

I'm having the same problem with my back passenger window. I replaced the bushings and the window still won't go up. The cable looks fine but its just not going up with out help. Any suggestions?

If you have no noise coming from the motor(s) it could be the switch (or one of them)

If you think it may be the switch, pull the panel, unhook the power window harness, and test the motor by hooking it up to a battery- both ways, one way will make the window go down, the other up. Just to eliminate a possible cause- because removing the window motors can be a pain the first time...

I wish people would quit using the phrase "bushings in the motor".

The bushings that go bad are in the drive gears and they really don't look like bushings either. They look like mini marshmallows.

Here's another question.

On the early First Gens ('91) are the front window regulators cables like the back ones?
I replaced a rear window ( 4 door) with the cableless regulator ( bought it from teh same guy as TBARS did) but never had the front door panels off. Just the other day the wife was saying how the Drivers window is working in Slo-Mo.
Hence the reason I had this Website at my fingertips

sometimes its something really simple and stupid too- my acura did the slow-mo thing on the passenger side and it was just a window seal that had worked itself loose a little and was catching on the glass as it tried to go up...worked fine goin down though...hint hint...

...The only reason I mentioned that thread is my X is an early first gen and I know that not all 91 parts are the same as later model 91's thru 94 years...I know the "Help" bushing part numbers are the same part but if one was to swap units out I am not sure the mounting would be the same...

My thought was if the front was cable like the rears, then probably the Motor Assembly is the same. I'd buy the Bushings, update the motor I took out of the rear Drivers side so it's ready for a 'quick' swap into the Front Door. The rear was bad because the Cable broke, I'd do teh bushings while it was out anyway.
My wife only has off two days a week, during the week, I have off on weekends. I don't see the car for long periods of time. Heck, I washed the 'X' at 4:45 this morning before I had to leave.
