Hey guys new to the forum. Just bought a 96 Limited and my passenger side window will go down but not up. Well it will go up you help it. Can hear the motor going just won't go up by it's self. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Try liberally spraying the window channels with Liquid Wrench foaming silicon spray. Then run the window up/dn a few times. If that doesn't get it working I'd say your window motor is weak and should be replaced, which, trust me, is not an easy job.

I had a '00 Explorer with a similar problem on the driver's window. After applying the silicon spray it worked well. My issue was the glass would go up (slowly) but it would not go down without help because it would get ****ed/jammed in the channel. I find the glass fit in the channels is sloppy, the regulator design is a bit flimsy and there's not much that holds the glass in the regulator.

I spray all my window channels about once a year to keep them all working smoothly.

If the window fits the door channels well, then the issue is likely the motor gearing plastic pucks. The motors are easy to R&R generally, but it takes some time to open up and swap out the plastic gear parts. The three little pucks get deformed or destroyed, and that greatly increases the load on the motor, which slows down or stops the window. The pucks are about $8 at any parts store.

If the pucks and other small plastic gear parts are kept in good shape, the motors can last the life of the vehicle.

Take off the door panels, and grease the window mechanism tracks. I had an issue on my 96 where up would start getting crooked and binding. Greased the tracks, and good to go.
