rebuild help !!!!

I'm down to the wire on getting this motor back together before my off-road trip and I'm reading the hanes manual while I'm putting back together the short block (4.0 v6) and it says to replace the rod bolts .... dealership nope... auto parts store ... nope... online forget about it I can't find them anywhere please help I hear the 289 302 will fit and I hear they won't I hear you don't have to replace them I hear you do its funny something so simple has been the biggest pain in the rebuild yet please don't just shoot me suggestions I need real answers from somebody has been through the Same ordeal....

Maybe try calling ARP? They might have something that crosses.

Isn't one of the big no-no's of wheeling "never go wheeling with a new motor?" Methinks you might want have a bit of a break-in period before you go off someplace with an untested rig. Just sayin...

The manual does say they are tty bolts but ive reused them in many motors and so have others without issues. .but yes the arp bolts for the 302 will work if want the extra insurance. .but i HIGHLY RECOMMEND breaking the motor in before you go out and bounce of rev limiter,bearings and rings both need it..

I'm going up to shoe creek and big levels trails in Virginia iv allowed time for break in but With the hang ups that time could start to diminish this is why I'm in go mode to get this done ASAP ( but with care of course) iv made reservations that are hard to get in the fall and I've been looking forward to this for over a year went up in March but the snow was to deep to continue on never actually made it to the actual trail. Going with arp302 bolts to be safe even though the manual says to replace the bolts there is no tightening sequence for 91-97 which a mechanic told me means it's not a torque to yeild bolt but better safe then sorry learned that lesson to many times .


By the way just how short are the 302 bolts is loctite recommended?

They aren't really short..the stock ones threads are exposed after the nut if i remember correctly so comparing them isnt proper. .

A message to whoever runs into this problem and finds this thread the arp high performance standard 5/16" 289 302 rod bolts are actually a flawless fit and are much stronger than stock bolts end your trouble and go with these bolts for the rebuild
