This is an '05 Aviator. I think the rack is the same as Ex, but not sure...
I'm pretty sure I've got a bad steering rack. Turning fully to the left often causes some shuddering in the steering wheel. Not really sure if its a bad seal or some mechanical damage.
Also seems like I've got some klunking in the front end. All front end parts are brand new high quality parts, so I think it's got to be in the rack. Or maybe the little klunking is just normal...
Anyway, is it worth rebuilding the steering rack myself or just buy one? I've heard that rebuilts are often bad, so maybe I'm better off doing it myself. If I get into it and find that there are worn/damaged mechanical parts then it's a lost cause anyway, but if its just seals then it should be easy?
