Just got a transmission on a 93 X 2WD A4LD rebuilt. The old one was a mess, the rebuild runs great. Except I noticed one thing on cold starts sitting overnight and this is Florida so it’s not that cold 75-76. Anyway start truck warm up about 30 –60 seconds it doesn't want to shift into 2nd I can run it up to about 30-35 mph and tack up to 3,000-3,500 then it finally shifts after some encouragement. Now after this about 200 yards I can stop then go and it shifts much better and then quickly is just fine......any ideas
Thanks
Bruce from Florida

That sounds like the symptoms of a sticky governor, it is a common after rebuild problem. The governor is a valve that uses centrifugal force to cause the upshift, its common for this to stick after rebuild because of wear on the governor valve and debris coming from the cooler from failed transmission. The new hot fluid will clean debris from the cooler and this can cause the governor to stick.

Either the governor has to be removed and re-cleaned or replaced, or free it up with the use of a additive like Lubegard.http://www.lubegard.com/C-112/LUBEGARD+Automatic+Transmission+Fluid+Protectant

I started to use a new governor valve and housing on the ones that I would rebuild just to try to avoid the hassle of dealing with a sticky governor and a fussy customer.

...or adjust the bands. ask the rebuilder if he adjusted the bands. loose or tight bands might be the prob.

I have the same exact problem with the same vehicle except 4wd. I just received my Lubegaurd, I ordered it from Amazon, very cheap. I will keep this posted to see how it works. Did you find any success.
