Relay box rotted - $1300?

My wife just took her 2001 Explorer Sport 4WD in for a washer repair today and was told that she needed a $1299 relay box which is rotted away; could someone suggest other things that may go bad if this relay box is not replaced? Otherwise, I would love some advice on a less expensive workaround to get her washer working (toggle switch on the dash?). Sorry to sound so stupid, just hate for her to have an excuse to get a new vehicle ;-) Thanks for your time.

Ok
I had bad connections devlop in my power distribution box. The spade lugs themselves were loosened-corroded.

It was time consuming, and kind of confusing to repair-replace the connections. I did it one section at a time. it took me about 2 hours. 1300 seems high.
