I will be buying a Ranger soon and am thinking of getting a 3.0 v6 4X2 with a manual transmission. I am looking at 04+ model years. I have read in several places that the 04-06 3.0s were manufactured with faulty heads. Do the heads on most 04-06 3.0s fail prematurely? Is it safe to buy one from these years as long as the heads have been replaced already; and if they haven't been replaced, how expensive of a job is it? Are there any other reliability issues with 04+ 3.0s? I don't know if I will be able to find an 07 or 08 3.0 in my price range of $3-4K. I am looking for trucks with around 125-175K miles.
