Hi boys, I have been trying to set up remote entry on my 98 explorer, without any success, so I went to the locksmith in town and he had no luck either, so I am looking for what might be wrong, I turn the key eight times on and of and end with the key in the on position, I can hear the locks cycle but nothing happens when I push the remote. Any one out there with any ideas as to what is happening and what my next step should be.
I bought the remotes on line some time ago, didn't pay a lot for them, but the man at the locksmith tried one of theirs and that didn't work, I have had no problems programing remotes on my Ba falcon, they work ok. any information would be greatly appreciated. thasnks,

Here are the instructions again

Must be done in 10 seconds
Key fob buttons must be pushed within 20 seconds

Make sure fob has good battery and is correct fob for a 98

If it doesn’t work then something up with your keyless entry computer would be my guess

Thanks for that, I was in touch with an Australian forum the other day and was told if they were not from an Australian seller that they would be a different frequency, I will get one here in Australia and see what happens, can you tell me if these explorers have a receiver in the door for the remote

The keyless entry computer is located in the cargo area behind the plastic panel on drivers side (for USA trucks)

You can use a small pry bar and flashlight
Remove the jack cover
Pull slightly on the plastic and with a flashlight you can see the module
It has a sticker on it with the keyless entry code

Thank you for your reply, my truck is in Australia & doesn't have a panel on the door where I can put a code in, The unit is in the jack compartment, but that doesn't help me, there must be another way it can be done, I read on line where there would be a receiver in the driver side door, but I checked both doors and found nothing , I can get the doors to cycle but the remote I have is not responding, any more help would be good,
I was on an australian fourm yesterday & one reply said I have a remote unit that has the wrong frequency, so I will get another one & try it

Never been a module in the doors just the external keyless entry pad
The keyless entry and locks computer is always in the back cargo
Like you found

Must be the key fob frequency, I think you are on the right path
It always works for me when trying to
Program new fobs. So your issue is a new one!
I bet it’s as simple as the aus model using different fobs

Thanks for your advice, I hav a new fob unit comming, I will let you know how I go
