Remote Fob not working while vehicle is running

Greetings all,

1st time posting -

2001 Explorer XLT with two key fobs (remotes) that have been both programmed using the procedure as listed in the owners manual.

Problem is: I routinely have to leave my vehicle running and locked, but I have noticed that when the key is turned to any position other than off, the fobs/remotes do not work.

Any suggestions on how to correct this?

There is nothing wrong with the Fob's, that's how they are set up to work. Best way to deal with it is to either put a keypad on the door or get an aftermarket alarm setup that has it's own Fob's. Then you can do what you want.

BTW, why do you have to leave it running and locked?

It's used as an emergency services vehicle for the fire dept. Thanks for your reply.
