Does anyone know if there is an OEM remote starter upgrade for a '96 Explorer? Would like to add one if it's reasonable, but don't want to deal with a second remote and can't justify the expense of ripping out the stock alarm/keyless remote.

I've heard that Code-Alarm makes an "Add On" for stock alarms, but havent been able to find details on it, or it's compatible with older models.

Thanks in advance.

Ford does (did?) make one... It was made by CodeAlarm... Being a non-PATS truck, however, you don't need the fancy-schmancy CodeAlarm/Ford unit... almost any quality aftermarket unit will work fine for you.

My link I provided is for the Ford (Code Alarm) systems...which are actually made by Audiovox IIRC. They allow you the option of retaining the factory fob's, which I believe was important to the OP. I'm not aware of any others that will do that.

if you have any love for your truck you shouldn't even think about adding an aftermarket anything electrcial not to mention a starter kit, i have seen the wreck entire cars, the quality of the relaies and internal electrical is terrible and it's only a matter of time before some chinese solder comes apart and your stuck somewhere trying to repair whats left of you wiring with a pocket knife

That is absolutely ludicrous. SEMA would love to see this comment.

And the manufacturer isn't immune from these issues. Case in point the cruise control disconnect switch on the master cylinder.
