I was looking into buying a remote start system for my 98 sport. Does anyone have any info/opinion about brands or features. I have noticed that there is a lot of cost variance throughout the market. I just want one that will be very reliable. I dont want to mess with the factory alarm/anti-theft.

Thanks for any help.

Back in '93 when the Camero was redesigned, my wife purchased a Z28 that had a remote starter.

At first it was great. You could scare people walking by, warm it up before getting into it etc. Then about two or three months down the road we starting experiencing problems.

We had problems between the starter and security system in car. Possibly overloaded the relay systems, or maybe it was an installation snafu.

To make a long story short, we had it disconnected and the problems seemed to disappear. Go figure.

Now I'm sure lots has changed since '93 but based on past experience I'd forego the starter. JMHO.

Good luck!

there are a bunch of remote start systems on Ebay....but none are specificly for the explorer....

I know have meant the only two people from ill. I didn't even think people from that area still had power. I see you are from Gibson....(PIZZA) I grew up in Roberts which is about 20 miles from you....population 400 :) Is it weird that there are more people from a small farm town on this board than there is from Vegas. That's it...I'm moving back....as soon as it's spring.

As for the starter.....I don't know. :)

sorry there lee...there are about 15 or us on here....check out the trails in illinois thread, or the attack on attica threads......

you're from gibson, eh? as in gibson City?

Leebo must have misread. Gilson (northwest of bloomington about 1.5 hrs)

lol....oh yeah...i did too!!! hahaha

not the point.

It's just not fair. I wana go 4x4 right now. In fact..I might just drive about 2 miles and start on some rock-crawling. So there...bet you can't do that now can you???

*pout* i wanna do that....

oh yea, well we could drive less than that a drive throught a soggy wet corn field. Bet you can't do that.

is it don johnson? lol...you coming to the badlands this weekend?

As in Miami vise? I dont want to be associated with anybody from Florida with this election thing going on.

Actually Doug Johnson.

How far is the badlands from Champaign?

I live in Tuscola (20 min. south of Champaign) right now.

I might be able to make a small day trip though.

Warning! I am still stock. Waiting for Trailmaster to get off their A$$. I ordered my lift on Sept 7th.

no kidding?!?! my sister and brother in law just moved there. attica is about 20 min inside the indiana border, and about 15 miles north on 41. it takes me about 2 hours to get there from bloomington. check out the attica turkey run thread in serious explorations....we have a few other stock vehicles going...check it out and post your interest..

Ack! You're still "cursed!" Doug Johnson was the University of Florida's quarterback from 1996-1999.

Enough about my name! ha ha! I still would like to know if anyone has installed a remote starter on their explorer.

I had a remote starter instaled on my 97 Explorer Sport.
The Dealership where I bought the truck installed it for me.
It is NOT a "Ford" Remote starter. It is an AfterMarket.
I like it, its great. I worked with my Factory keyless entry remote.
