I have to be dummy to ask but how does the air box come out? I have a 98 5.0 and am trying to install a cone filter.
There were some earlier posts on prying on the 2 mushroom bolts under the air cleaner. How is this done? I can't reach the bottom of the air cleaner and what do I do with the 2 bolts on the side?
I could be a caveman and rip it out but I don't want to break anything.

Sorry for the dumb question, my lack of knowledge is matched by my lack or tools.

thanks.

i struggled with the sohc airbox for 2 days. then i sat down and thought about the laws of physics and how it would come out. there was like a certain way to get it out. once i found it was super easy. if you pull the wrong way nada.

LOL it's a little tricky. First spray some wd-40 on the grommets underneath then yank the sucker out! It will come out you just have to yank on it real hard. If you still can't get it out use a small pry bar and get under the box where the grommets are and pry on it.

Take two screw driver. There are 2 fasteners underneath that connects the air box to the base plate. Wedge one screw driver in between the air box and the base plate as close as you can to the fastener. Do the same with the other screw driver with the other fastener. Now pull on the screw driver until the air box and the base plate snaps and separates from each other. You would have to pull firmly.

my tip is PULL HARDER...it took alot to yank mine out and u will not break it so don't worry and the screw driver thing doesn't work to well...so just PULL HARDER...lol...hope u get it out...laterz

when you pull, try going

" GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR "

It always works for me.

screw drivers works well for me. brute force isn't necessary. its about technique.
