I'm trying to clean up my X a little bit and was curious if anyone knew if the rear badges on a '97 X XLT are adhesive or pegged. I was hoping someone would know before I tried ripping things apart.

They are pegged.

I was hoping I wouldn't have any holes to fill. Oh well

Yep. 5 holes exactly.

Yep. It'll come right out. Filling the hole is the trickiest part. Painting it is the expensive part.

1st gen? I ain't got no clue, sorry.

1st gens have the same holes. The only trucks that don't have holes are 98+.

Well, at least I've got an idea what I'm getting myself into now. Thanx guys

Yes.

Yeah I was going to say my 01 sport I took everything off with fishing tess. I like a clean truck. The Explorer letters on the side and the back were individual letters and were held there by like foam tape. My opinion is there going to fall off when the truck gets old might as well clean it up now.

wait so how do you take them off a 98+?

I used fishing line, doubled it up, and slid it behind the letters, using a motion up and down to so called "slice" the backing off. There will be residue left over, use goo gone or hair spray and rub it off after you use your fingers to get the big stuff off.

i just used a razor and was real carefull not to scratch the paint. it didnt leave residue or nuthin
