I have a 1997 Explorer. Is there a way to remove the taillight lenses without having to take out the entire light assembly? Are the 2 screws at the top of the assembly the only screws to remove? When I tried to remove the lens, I was afraid I would break the lens by having to pull out that peg at the top of the assembly. Any help is appreciated...

Just pull the lense straight out, wiggling slightly. I've done it twice. It feels like it's gonna break, but they do slide out.

Pull straight out toward me or pull up toward the top of the vehical? Thanks...

Just give a little wiggle to them and pull up gently while pulling out. It is one of those things that right at the point you think you are going to break them, they pop out.

Grip and rip.

There are two threaded posts

that a clip rides on. When these get rusty, they are very hard to pull out. I bought a 97 used and the last guy cracked the lens trying to get it out. Before you put it back, grease these posts. Makes it much easier the next time. You might try prying from the back with something wide.
