I am in the process of removing the transmission from a '95, 5spd, 2wd. I've got most everything apart and am just about ready to try to pull it. A couple of questions:

1. The top two bolts on the bell housing look tough to get to. Any tricks? Just try to reach up there with extensions?

2. Do I have to remove the exhaust down pipes to pull the transmission? Looks like I do but I pounded away at the down pipes/manifold bolts with an impact wrench without any movement. Therefore it looks like it will be a major pain to try to remove these down pipes. Rather not.

Thanks

Try a breaker bar, and a blow torch on the bolts. Use a socket with an integrated universal to remove those top bolts. The better style impact universal socket is better than the wobbly style which is mostly open. A wobble extension might work, but I've found them to be a little loose when applying a lot of torque at an angle.
