Its a very simple task.

First disconnect your negative battery terminal
Remove air intake tube for easier access
Unplug the wire harness to the voltage regulator
Loosen the serpentine belt and remove from the alternator pulley
Remove the 3 x 13mm bolts
Remove the alternator from truck

Good luck ....

Thanks. I appreciate the info.

ADVICE:

You can usually get it bench tested at your local auto store (for free)......sometimes you might be able to get away w/ just replacing the (in a CHEVY) brushes, diodes or the voltage regulator.

As for a FORD......I haven't done one, YET. Knock on wood. ;)

Aloha, Mark

can anyone help me? I need to replace my alternator and having a problem with belt. 2001 explorer limited 4.0

Go to your local auto parts store and buy an inexpensive tool to fit the tensioner pully. It is well worth the cost. A lot easier to use than a ratchet or breaker bar.

serpentine belt replacement

Thanks!

I used an 3/8 rachet with an extendable arm that I bought from Harbor Freight. It easily got in there and loosened the tension pulley. I followed the video below and was done in about 30 minutes. I am by no means an expert. Since I was going through the excericise of changing the alternator I changed the belt while I was at it.
