My break lights were starting to go out and when I would jiggle the stop light switch they would come back on.

I decided to replace the stop light switch. Now I cannot get the 1999 Explorer Sport out of gear and the break lights are not coming on.

The bushing came flying off when I was taking the switch off, so I do not know exactly how it should go back on. Does anyone have a picture of how it should go on or any other suggestions why I can't get it out of gear when it wasn't an issue before?

Welcome to this forum! There is a safety interlock solenoid which prevents you from shifting out of park without stepping on the brake first. Align the switch with the washer, and the retaining clip, and see if the arm of the brake pedal makes contact with the plunger of the switch (the shaft coming out of the switch).

Thanks Brooklyn, it's now going into gear and the brake lights are working.
