OK guys...I'm sick of this!!! After ALLLL of that work:

My idle is rough and when I take off the motor sounds lumpy.

I can even hear it in the fluctuation of noise from my power steering pump.

When I drop into OD or 4th with OD off, I get a BAD stumble or shudder.

If I floor it, motor is FINE.

I disconnected the IAC (thinking I may have damaged it when cleaning the inside of the plenum) and the idle goes down like it should. Reconnect the IAC and idle rises as normal.

ANY ideas??? No I didn't check my plugs b/c I didn't think they could foul from anything I did. I'm going back out to double-check vacuum lines.

Maybe the RTV I had to use on the back and front of the block to fill the void of the 2 piece gaskets didn't seal correctly? I'm gonna take some carb cleaner and shoot it into that spot.

See, I was all excited about this job and now I have a headache. That's my luck, though.:mad::mad:

Oh, and I DID have an extra gasket left over...for the EGR tube the box says? It's round, about 1 1/4" in diameter.

I never came across such a seal upon disassembly, so I obviously didn't have a need to use it.

OK JT, just did that no change.

However, I disconnected the throttle position sensor and NO change in the idle.

I turned the truck off, disconnected the TPS, started her back up, NO change. Connected the TPS while it was running, NO change.

Could I have buggered her up while I was cleaning out the throttle body yeasterday with profuse amounts of carb/TB cleaner?

Yeah-
I messed mine up just washing it-

Could you check the voltage of the TPS with the key on?

there is a 5v supply-signal ground-and signal lead .

you want to see less than 1v at rest and between 4-5 v At wot between the signal lead and ground lead. You must use the "signal ground" as the reference. Using the battery or chassis ground may give an erroneous reading.

Also
what happens when you disconnect the maf sensor--does the engine run well without it?

sounds like it could be the carb settings.. since its only when you take off, if you floor it it goes fine.. check the carb settinge..

There is no carb to check settings on.

I mean change the settings for lower range, the main jet...

Um....sounds like you are in the wrong forum....

we are fuel injected,. not carbed so no idle jet setting as my mustang had

OK I'm getting a low voltage throttle position sensor code, lean condition bank 2 and my check engine light is blinking which according to the service manual means im misfiring.

HELP!

TPS sensor is 27$...should I change it?

Like I said, I unplug the TPS and the idle does NOT change. If I start the vehicle with it unplugged, then plug it in, again, no change in idle.

Yes change the TPS, it should affect the idle more than yours is.

Your idle screws may be turned in too much, LOL.

OK...my ride home from work was NOT fun.

The TRANSMISSION would not shift out of 3rd gear so I did 45-50MPH @ 3300RPM's for about 3 miles on the highway.

My CEL is blinking and when I take off it's sputter-sputter-sputter all the while shaking terribly.

You know, is it possible to damage anything by starting the truck with the spark plug wires hooked up the wrong way?

In an earlier post I stated that I initially started the truck with 2 plug wires crossed. What I heard was a tick/knock/banging noise for a second and no start. I wonder if I could damage a plug doing this (internally?)

In any case, I was told that the transmission absolutely relies on the TPS to shift, since our 5R55E's have electronically controlled shifting and depend on signals from the TPS to shift.

So does ANYONE know if I should get an idle change while disconnecting the TPS while the truck is running? Or starting the truck with the TPS unplugged?

I'm getting codes: PO122, PO304, PO174, P1504

Man, what a stinkin' mess...:(

OK...the injector that I thought I messed up is at cylinder 5...the misfire is at 4, which is the closest to you on the drivers side. So that rules out the "questionable cylinder).

I THOUGHT I had an old plug, but I don't.

So, new TPS, new plug, and I have an old wire from the wires I just changed.

Which bank is #2, the right side? That's what I'd guess. I know one of those code is bank 2 lean condition.

JT, I didn't disconnect the MAF sensor while she was running...just the IAC (which triggered a code) and the TPS.

The IAC disconnected made the idle jump up, and the TPS nothing.

ALTHOUGH...as I left work I tried to drive w/ the TPS disconnected. The tranny would "hit" into 2nd gear (the 1st shift).

When I reconnected it it shifted fine, except like I said it would not shift out of 3rd.

This is weird b/c I drove to work and it shifted through all of the gears, unless now the TPS is pretty much screwed.

You should have a multi-meter to check things like the TPS. It doesn't cost too much so it's not a bad thing to try. The truck would be drivable with the MAF unhooked, but it would be noticeably off.

CDW my brother has my fluke meter and he's in NJ...and...I haven't gotten it back yet, heh.

I'm gonna go to Advance Auto first thing tomorrow and buy the TPS and plug. They're the ONLY ones who carry the TPS for a 4.0

Seems like it would be a common part but NO ONE carries IT!!!

If the TPS/wire/plug don't work there's no way I can drive an hour to my classes on the highway. In that case, I'm pretty much screwed.

I can't believe it's turned into this. The truck was pinging BAD and I was worried that I'd damage the engine driving around like that.

What seemed like a pretty straightforward fix has turned into a nightmare!!!

The thing is when stuff is happening to engine it can be 1-5 things wrong, so the one thing you did may not 100% fix the issue if other things are worng as well, but not indicate so until 1-2 things are fixed beforehand.

Thats the problem with all computerized vehciles in which you get 1 code, but can lead to 1-3 or 1-5 things wrong.

Example:

O2 sensor code reads lean or rich bank 1 or 2, YA sooooo and if you changed the O2 sensor and still the the CODE then what?

The O2 sensor was probaly ok as it was reading lean or rich cause of something else being the issue, Intake Gaskets, TPS, ECT, MAF, IAC, Air Temp Gauge.

OR

A combination of 1-6 of those items listed above.
