I installed one of those, it leaked right away. The Simmons I replaced it with does not leak.

If you want to do this difficult job once, spend a few more dollars and install a Simmons.

It's not hard I did it in a hour
Every time I mention the Austech this guy says it's crap it works fine if you install it correctly

Make your own decisions don't just do what someone tells you to do :)

4.0 SOHC Metal Thermostat Housing Comparison

But donalds, on Post 58 of this thread, 4.0 SOHC Metal Thermostat Housing Comparison you mentioned the following:

"Still no leaks on my austeck
But remember I disassembled it Inc the threaded heater hose on top and used the correct rtv I also put anti seize on all the threaded inserts
Used a real Felpro gasket and the same rtv on the two halves "

I did not remove the threaded heater hose on top and reseal with the correct RTV, that is where mine leaked. It should not be necessary to do this on a new part.

I have replaced the thermostat housing 3 times on my Job 1 SOHC, it takes more than an hour.

It takes a hour if you are experienced on working on cars it's not hard at all just remove the alternator and bracket and it's right there
And yes I took the time to look it over and to seal it up better it all comes down to what you want to spend being disabled I can't justify spending that much on the Simmons when I can use a much cheaper housing and take some time to seal it up g## dam epilepsy

I suppose it can take much longer if you were to remove the intake manifold to do the job

I still don't understand how a person can replace the housing without removing the upper intake. Regardless, with as much practice as I've had with mine, I can now remove the intake in probably 15 mins...and, it makes accessing the housing so much easier. I get the argument either way on the metal ones. Not sure which one l'll go with when the time comes to replace AGAIN.

It's possible if you remove the throttle body, only 4 bolts.

I removed the alternator and it's bracket like in the pic above its right there I didn't even think to remove the intake
Probably because Im cheep and the intake will require new gaskets and risk of striping the lower intake screw holes lol screws not bolts etc ford
And as Paul says I think I removed the throttle body but I can't remember I think he is 100% correct
