Who here has done it? I have a nice Nav unit installed and I am looking to now add a couple amps and replace all the speakers. I would love to replace the stock sub in the stock location with something better and get as much hit out of it as I can. I realize the stock one is only 8 inches, but with a nice speaker and a big amp, probably get some decent bump outta it. Who's done it and how did it work out?

Im sure a good 8 sub that needs a small box with some good power to it will sound at least twice as good as stock. Take out the stock sub and find out the specs of the box and match the sub to it. Let me know how it sounds.

Im interested in doing this too, but anyone know a good 8-inch sub...and would it work with teh stock system or would I need a new amp and all?

pretty positive youd need a new amp plus the ford amp is tiny im sure.

haha . which amp should I get? and where is the amp located? Also, to repalce the sub how to you get teh paneling off?

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever manage to pull this off?

I had the audio shop do this for me. The biggest question was clearance - I understand that with the JBL 8 inch I had them install it needed a 3/4 inch spacer to make it. I went with a 5 channel amp (JBL too I think) that had 300 watts for the sub. It is enough for me and more than the kids or the wife can stand at higher volume. Installing in the stock location was what I wanted.

I am happy with the stock bass in this system. But at the mix I like, if anyone is sitting in 2nd or 3rd rows, it's annoying to them. But turning the bass down enough so the rear settles down, makes the fronts sound awful.

I'd love to be have separate level control to that sub. Is that something an audio shop could do for me, or would they just try to sell me on something I don't want/need (like new speakers)?

I'm not aware of a way to achieve that level of control with the stock system. It may be possible with a lot of work, but it would take someone really knowledgeable with stock Ford systems.

Without knowing for sure - my gut tells me that when other people are presented with that kind of an issue they resort to aftermarket solutions because modifying the stock system would seem to be overly complicated and expensive.
