Hey guys,

My 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac was having a hard time shifting and the O/D light was flashing so I ran the code and got P0708, so then I went and replaced the TRS. I replaced it with relative ease, but now my truck won't start. I made sure the neutral lines matched up, so I'm a bit confused about how I may have messed up the installation.

Any idea what might have caused this and how I should approach fixing it?

Thank you!

Use of an ohmmeter can single out failed connections, if present. Also, the TRS must be aligned. If out of alignment, the neutral-start contacts will not match the detent locations of the shift lever. Possibly a bad replacement switch. Use wiring diagram to check TRS contacts. Also look for possible burn-out in harness adjacent to exhaust piping.

Thanks for the advice! I don't have the wiring diagram, is there anyway you could point me to the correct one online? I'm going to take the TRS off and ensure it was aligned correctly.

Need to know which transmission you have, first of all. Then if luck prevails, searching "P-0708 wiring diagram 2003 (trans. type)" might come up with it. Surest way is to obtain transmission repair manual.

If attempting to re-set TRS, note mounting screw holes are ELONGATED to allow adjustment. With a helper in the vehicle, leave screws relatively loose, rotate TRS as far counterclockwise as possible, hold it there, have your helper then turn key to START position, holding it there, while you rotate TRS clockwise until engine cranks. There is a "window" in location which may be found by marking location carefully with marker, then starting from the opposite direction, marking again, then centering TRS between the marks, tighten screws. If engine fails to crank TRS is not at fault.

well a 2003 sport trac only came with the 5r55e automatic I am not sure if you could get a 5 speed in 03 still, but that would not have a DTRS :)

So to install the DTRS (digital transmission range sensor)
The column shifter and the transmission must be in Neutral, then with the range sensor also in N you slide it on and bolt it down
If you are still having issues after this CHECK ALL OF YOUR FUSES

If that does not work then try rotating the TRS with the elongated holes
