I have a 98 explorer with the 5.0 (well a friend of mines) he asked me to replace the water pump because it is leaking. I got the parts and thermostat and gasket. We did the job and took it to florida, on the way home the temp gauge alomst maxed out, so i pulled over and there was coolant everywhere. It was all over the inside of the hood and on top of the motor and all down the sides and just everywhere. I thought it might be the cap cause it had some cheap aftermarket cap on it, i bought a ford cap and filled the system and drove it but when i got back and checked it again theres coolant spraying up the passenger side. Its all over the air box and the reservoir tank. Im kinda stuck because i dont have a tester to pressurize the system but someone told my friend its on of the hoses. But i cant see any of the hoses wet. Im lost lol and would appreciate any advice cause ive never worked on fords i used to be a volvo mechanic for a few years.

It could be the timing chain cover (front cover) that the water pump bolts to. There is a gasket between the timing cover and the front of the engine block that has been know to fail over time. It would be best if you could pressure test it. Try looking right behind the water pump and see if you see traces of leakage.
