I have to replace my alternator but the replacement given to me doesnt match up with my old one. I looked it up myself and this should be the correct alternator. The new one is missing a connection. The wiring in my 99 Ford Exp Sport has an extra wire connector coming off of the main connector.

It is the white one in the picture below.

Before I put things back together and head back to the auto store to ask them, does anyone know what this wire is for?

its the wire that turns on the regulator. it seems a bit odd that the "correct" one doesnt match up. try getting a second opinion at another parts store

Damn. How the heck did I get the wrong one. I even looked it up myself and its suppose to be the right alternator.

Thanks for the reply. I guess its obviously an important wire so ill have to put stuff back together and try to get to the part store

Yeah, that spot where that connector plugs into, doesnt exist on the replacement alternator.

yes you might want to check that out. just goto another place and see if they give you anything different. how does the new one look though?

Nevermind, its my fault. I got a part for OHC when I have OHV I believe. I sure wish I knew more about cars. Thanks for your help.
