Can i just replace my factory amp which is located in the rear next to my replace sub.
I was looking at just replacing the amp with a new 100-200 watt momo amp. Would I beable to take the factory wires and run them into a amp and sub?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Kenny

Makes sense right?

I wanted to do this with mine, but I don't think 1st gens have rca cables running to the amp from the HU.. I think all the wires run from the HU to the amp and then to the doors :eek:

I could be wrong, and probably am, but I just opted to run new door wires and send and rca from the HU to my new amp and did it like that.

<edit>

This is on an aftermarket deck.. I don't know if stock decks have rca outputs. Hopefully someone else can help you out better.

stock hu don't have rca cables of what i'm aware of. it's just wires to the speakers. you can replace your amp but you have to have an aftermarker hu for the preouts. if you want to switch amps and don't have an aftermarket hu you can pick up these things that run from your rear door speakers to your amp.

aren't i a pest, mohog?? :p

Mohog is right: there are no RCA jacks on the back of the factory head units. An aftermarket HU can be a great way to go! if you don't have the money though, (I for one don't mind the stock look and the big buttons i don't need to take my eyes off the road to look for) but you can get line output converters that convert (duh) your speaker-level signal into line-level RCA pre-outs. one drawback to that though, is they can be noisy if you get a cheapy one. Better yet, you can also find smaller monoblock amps with speaker-level inputs, and run speaker wires directly into the amp. in some cases if you use speaker wire inputs, you don't have to run a remote wire; it senses signal (easier since speaker level signal is higher and easier to detect than line-level) and turns the amp on immediately. I believe that's one feature of MTX amps.
