Replacing power steering pump - new or used?

I need to replace my power steering pump. My question is can I get away with a used P/S pump and pulley from a JY or should I get new? The cost of used is 1/2 the price of new parts.

You could get away with a jy piece, but the question is what if somethings wrong with that one? You go through the trouble of pullin it, installin it in your truck, then find out after all that that its bad, or maybe its good but a couple months down the road it craps out. Personally id just spend the extra and buy new, for the piece of mind

A reman ps pump is only about $40 from Advance. I have used their pumps before on my Ranger and never had any problem

This was what I was looking at. $46.99+tax and then $19.99+tax for the pulley.

Ive been out of work for a little over 2weeks so i'm trying to keep costs down especially since i have some other issues on the X to deal with.

You can rent a pulley puller bassicly for free from advance and use your pulley unless yours is messed up. And you get a core return with it. A ps pump from a parts yard is going to cost you maybe $10 - 15 less and it may or may not be any good. Plus you have the added bonus of cleaning all the gunk out of it
