My 99 Explorer has 125k miles and the serpentine belt has never been replaced. I know, not good. So, I am planning on replacing it, should I also replace the idler pulley or any thing else? It is not making any noise or anything. Just thought since the belt is off, should the pulley also be replaced...?

Thanks you!

It would be a prudent and relatively inexpensive insurance policy, considering the milage. The peace of mind would be worth it I think. I think all three parts are around $20-25 each.

What three parts are you referring too? Belt, idler pulley and ? Are there two belts? Guess I had take a better look...

And it looks like the belt costs $30 and the idler pulley is $50.

i think the third part he is referring to is the belt tensioner.

I would replace the belt, idler, and tensioner.

Good luck ...

Which engine do you have? The 5.0 has a tensioner and two idler pulleys. I can't remember the config on the 4.0 (SOHC or OHV). I had all three pulleys replaced earlier this week. I did the belt several months ago. A much appreciated byproduct of the pulley swap was a much quieter idle. I had this annoying whine for a long time that was thought to be the power steering pump! Before the belt swap, I used to get an annoying squeak when the belt would get wet. Consider a Goodyear Gatorback belt. It came highly recommended and I do now as well. Super quiet.

I am sorry, I have the V6 4.0 SOHC engine. And thanks for the feedback, I did not realize their is an idler pulley and tensioner... I assumed that the pulley also provides the tension...
