when i replaced the belt on my mounty's v8, i relieved the tension by crawling under and accessing the tensioner from down there since i couldnt reach it properly from the top because of those hoses... but that was just the easiest way that i could do it..

I think I might have found a problem, from the diagrams and pictures I've found on this site, mine has a pully or something very very close to the tensioner and I don't think there's a way to that hole? Maybe I'm just looking at it from the wrong angle, I couldn't see it from the bottom or the top.. anyone have anymore pictures of the 5.0? I really need a front picture of the 5.0.. that would help me the best..

I just noticed something, my sticker has everything in that picture.. except the tensioner thing.. So I'm a bit confused..

Help... =\

Red arrow points to the tensioner. (see pic)

The tensioner has two parts to it. The end touching the belt is a ribbed pulley, which is connected to an arm that is bolted to the engine block at the end opposite the pulley. Insert the 3/8" ratchet/breaker bar the square hole in that arm and use it to rotate the arm, moving the pulley away from the belt. There is no actual loosening/tightening - The pulley is held against the belt through spring tension.

Make sense? ;)

That's the 4.0L, I do not have that on my 5.0

Look at it without that little piece, and trace the dotted line and erase everything else (the little tensioner thing).. that's how mine is.

How mine is setup.

Not a ford, but we changed the serpentine belt on a GMC van about a year ago coming home from charlotte with basic tools. Took like 30 minutes once we got all the parts we needed.

I always carry a spare belt in the truck along with a 3/" breaker bar and a screwdriver.

How am I suppose to get the belt off my 5.0? I don't have the tensioner like the SOHC has.

Apparently, at least some of the 5.0s use a different style tensioner than what the 4.0's have. Someone that has actually dealt with that tensioner will have to explain the process.

Yeah, I really need to figure this out.. Help! I need to get my vehicle running asap now.

Anyone have a 5.0 with the same setup as mine??

I got these pictures from WhiteLimited and Russ, but I'm still kinda lost.. could someone post maybe some different angles of where I'm supposed to put the ratchet?

I went outside a moment ago and took a look at it, but I can't seem to find the spot to crank? It's kind of dark out though, so I don't know.. might just not see it in this darkness.. but if someone could post some more information about the 5.0 Tensioner it would be helpful.

Anyone?

Didn't realize you had a 5.0...

Remove the air cleaner outlet tube to gainbetter access from the top. Then, using the bolt in teh center with an apropriately sized socket, turn the tensioner bolt clockwise to release the tension from the belt.

This really should not be difficult... You only need to remove the intake tube from the air box and flex it out of the way.

So it is in fact the bolt on the pulley, not something on the tensioner itself?

Loosen the bolt?... you Do mean turn the tensioner (with the bolt) so it makes the belt loose.. right? =\
