Replacing Spark Plug Wires - remove parts for access??

I'm trying to replace the spark plug wires, but it seems that they won't pull through where they are routed, so need to remove black plastic air inlet thing for example? Can it be done in an easy way without removing extra parts??

I checked the service manual, and it doesn't mention removing anything for the wires, but for the plugs it does tell you to remove the air cleaner outlet tube as well as remove the positive crankcase ventilation tube from the valve cover... For the life of me I can't figure out why you need to do this???

Air cleaner tube is easy to remove; just loosen the clamp, disconnect the MAFS, and the breather hose.

You dont have to reroute them exactly the same way.

I cut mine off (the old set), then routed the new wires, some under the throttle body and other around it. The wires were plenty long enough to reach using the modified route.. Zip ties keep them in place. Just make sure it's not up against anything too hot.

I was able to get it, thank-you! There was one thing on a foam block, where the leads came over the block, once that was off, it was a piece of cake!

Btw, the rear most passenger plug was one of the easiest to get off, from the top no problem. I think there must be some difference in models where people need to get at it from the bottom...

Did end up getting the wire puller tool from Advance needed for the middle one on the driver side...

Long handled,angled needle nose pliers work great to. I got a pair,one str8 and one an 90 degree angle. Harbor Frieght. I'll never use "boot pullers" again. Use the pliers gently ofcourse and they save some headaches.

I got the pair for $5.99. Man, Harbor is great for some tools.

how to reconnect sparkpug cable

my 98 x had been tune up but i think the sparkplug cables are not connected right. the right middle cable was connected to the fardest front distributor. is it right. i had check the middle cable on the left near the colant tank and its attached to the middle distributor slot. i tried to re-connect the right middle cable with the middle connector but my engine realy create a knocking sound. can you give some advise

i know this is an old thread, but HELP. please...

'99 explorer sport 4.0. i've read every related thread, question and reply i could find, but still have problem. between the *suggested to remove* inner fender and the plug is the blower motor. since i broke a snap-on 1/4" long ratchet trying to get this original plug out, it seems i will have to remove that blower motor. have tried from top, bottom and side and simply cannot get this plug out. any suggestions--should i remove this blower motor, and if so, how to do it. many thanks in advance...

Remove the passenger tire to access the #3 plug from underneath.
Use a wrench instead of a ratchet on the socket for more leverage.
