I'm putting in a transfer case that I bought here. Got the gasket that goes between the adapter and transfer case from drivetrain.c*m and while matching it up to the case, it isn't even close to fitting. I've written to them about returning the gasket but man oh man are they hard to find anywhere else. Can I just get away with using permatex to make a gasket here?

You could also go and purchase a sheet of gasket material and cut your own gasket, it is time consuming but will be worth it to eliminate any leaks between the coupling. The use RTV with the homemade gasket, will give a much better seal.

Any Ford dealer can sell you the correct gasket (4.0 and 5.0 are different, 5-bolt vs 6-bolt). It should be under $10.

x2 -- hit up the dealer, they should have it.
