I have a 2000 North Face in the UK. If I get a puncture some tyre shops say I will have to replace all four tyres.

Is this true and if so can you explain why?

There are not many Explorers in the UK so accurate information is hard to get.

Welcome!

Depends on how many miles (km) on your current tires. If your tires are more than 40-50% worn then I'd get all four replaced. You can get by with just replacing 2 (2 on the same axle front or rear) but then you're stuck with alternately buying 2 at a time. This also isn't the best choice with auto 4 wheel drive or All wheel drive. If your tires are less than 10% or so worn you can just buy one replacement.

The reasoning for all this is, you don't want connected tires with drastically different treadwears or tread patterns, it's just not safe in my opinion.

Is the Puncture not Repairable? Lots of shops will repair tires for cheap or for no cost at all. The only time a tire is not repairable is if the hole is in the Sidewall. If that is the case you can replace that one tire alone. But I would have all other Tires Inspected by a trained person. Any new tires need to be the same size and placed in the rear.

Welcome Kath
You found the right place for good info!
