Fellas, my 2003 explorer 4x4 4.0 has a 4-5 second delay when I put it in reverse. I thought maybe the solenoid pack was bad so I replaced that....no difference. I read that the reverse servo also works the 4 low. 4 low works fine. Am I looking at a bad valve body gasket possibly? When I first start the car up in the morning, reverse engages immediately. If I try to reverse 30 seconds later, it delays. Any help or thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also...when I dropped the pan to do the solenoid pack, the fluid was clean with no burnt smell at all. Hardly anything on the magnets as well...

Fluid level?

not sure if this helps or not...

4 low is taken care of entirely in the transfer case. My first suspects would be worn bores or a leaking gasket.
