For years I ran 7" rim (didn't know it was 7") and have switched to 8" for this season of wheeling (season hasn't started yet). The 7" rim was used with the 11.50 and 12.50 tires.

Personally, I like running a more narrow rim which helps keep the tire on the bead when aired down.

With 32" x 11.50's I actually ran 7-8psi when on sand and still didn't pop a bead (that's a 4.5" difference between rim and section width). That is equivalent to 8" rim with 12.50 rim which is what I am running now.

So, in short (I know too late), I like 4" or so of difference between section width and rim width to help keep the bead on. As an added bonus (to some) is it helps protect the rim some.

depends on your wheeling. If mud is your thing I'd go 10 wide. I love the look of a 10 wide or even 12 wide with a 12.5 tire. or better yet 14" tire on 14" wheel.:D

Just for reference this is a 35"x12.5" tire on a 10" wheel.

8 would work, 10 would be better.

The places I have been there is a mixture of everything steep rocky hills mud sand so would 8 inch wide be ok or do i need to do 10

I can't comment on the mud, but for rocks and sand I'd go with 8". You can air down lower safely with the narrower rim (to an extent of course). I haven't run < 13psi yet on the 8" rims (or on the 7" rims) but I have never pulled the bead when wheeling with those pressures.

Like I said before, I've run 7-8psi on rims that were 4.5" narrower than the tread width and didn't pull the bead.. and I wasn't driving slow there.
