The cross bars on my 2015 make so much noise that I keep them off. Is it possible that they were installed incorrectly at the dealer? I have noticed a different shape, front to back on the cross bar, but haven't found pictures to determine which is the leading edge. Any help on this one? Thanks...

Welcome to the Forum.
I don't recall this being an issue here. Hopefully another member will chime in. On my previous 2011 they were very quiet.
Please complete your registration by adding the 'Required' "Trim Level" (Base, XLT, etc.) of your Explorer(?) to your profile so it appears in the margin. That can be helpful info to have at times. Also, you say you have a 2015 but the margin shows a 2012? Thank you.

Changes made, as you suggested....

Make sure they're installed correctly in the right position. A lot of people complaining about wind noise on various models I researched before I got mine (Thule AeroBlade), had installed them incorrectly.

On a big car like the Explorer, you want to them to be toward the back of the car rather than the front. That reduces the wind noise by a lot. I keep mine on all the time, and the only time I hear them is between 40-45 mph, as a slight whistle, and at any other speed they're quiet, even in high winds.

Also, depending on what x-bars you have, make sure they weren't install backwards. Many seem to think the thinner end goes to the front of the car, which is wrong. The thin end is to the back.
