Hi All,

For soome odd reason the crossbars are no longer a standard part of the roof rack. I want this option but am having 2 difficulties:

1) Getting the correct parts from my dealer - they don't seem to know exactly what to order.
2) How to install the parts. As near as I can tell, I will need to pop off the dressing cap on the end of the rails but I am not sure how.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

I have a 2005 XLT.

Thanks!

Carl

Thanks for posting this. I also need to find a set of crossbars for my '01 sport trac. Dealer doesn't know what I'm talking about. But I found factory ones on fordaccessories.com.

Thanks for the reply, Roadhouse. I will check it out.

As a sideline, the dealer's parts department is trying to help me out. It may be that the purchase of a "kit" is far less expensive than buying the individual parts.

To better help you. I moved your thread to the explorer 02 to 05 section

Answer to this thread!!!

I have the solution. I just picked up my roof rack "kit". It has all the parts necessary to install the cross-bars. The part number is:

5L2Z*7855100*AAA

The kit was $100.00, way less than trying to buy the individual cross-bars and hardware.

Now we are ready to load up the sled and head for the snow!

I am also looking for the crossbars. Where would I purchase them? Can I get them other than a Ford Dealer? Also how much are they?:D

911soccer,

I checked a truck outfitter near here and their price was over $100.00 more than my dealer. See my post from 11/10/06 for the price and the Ford part number. You will want to buy the kit, not the individual pieces. I installed the bars last night. Took about 15 minutes.

I am wondering if someone can help me out here:

I purchased a set of used OEM crossbars for my 03 explorer ltd, said they fit 02-04 explorers. Well they are about 2 inches too short to reach the rails??? I took the crossbars off a friends 06 ltd and they snapped right on to the mounting brackets. What gives? I keep seing everywhere that 02-04 is different from other years??

I also looked on ebay and found other people seling "02-04" crossbars and they look just like the ones that i received on ebay.

Can anybody take a picture of their 02-05 crossbars (specifically the end cap part that mounts to the brackets on the rails? It seems as if the LTD model has different rails....

THANKS!!!!!!

They might be for an Explorer Sport or Sport Trac.
