I plan on putting several low profile driving lights on my factory roofrack. I like the clean look of them and have no intention of adding a safari rick or those adjustable rails.
The rack on my 98 is fairly flimsy: Its made of plastic with metal reinforcing strips. Its made to be easilly removed by unskrewing the thumb bolts. I found that the 00/01 rack crossmembers are made from all metal, and use guides to keep the rack from flexing at the rack rail. This system is so good that as hard as i tried, i could not flex the crossmember at all!
I want to add the cross members from an 00/01 onto my 98. The rack rail is the same, but the plastic end caps are different. in the 00/01 they have cut outs to allow the crossmembers to slip into the rack rails. on my 98, they are filled in. I don't want to cut the plastic unless i have to, but haven't figured out a way to remove the end caps. I tried searching, but didn't find anything. Anyone have sucess?
