Rough Idle and Stalling

Hello everyone,

My name is chris, i currently bought a 91 explorer xlt, Im glad i came across this site bc im in need of some help. My explorer has the 4.0 in it, the check engine light came on and the engine seemed like it lost all power, However i have got the truck to start a couple times after, It runs rough in park when it will start and as soon as its put in any other gear it dies. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me some ideas on what might be causing the problem. thank you everyone.

I got it figured it out it was the maf sensor that was causing the problem. Thanks again everyone

first of all did you change the fuel filter? if not do it asap also add a bottle of dry gas it will evaporate any humidity that you may have in the tank then fill it with 93 octane gas it will help to clean the carbon buildup that comes from using regular gas and finally for the love of pete DO NOT RUN YOUR EXPLORER WITH LESS THAN A QUARTER TANK!

My wife runs her Explorer regularly until the gas light comes on and it has over 200,000 miles on it...we still argue about it.

A month ago it was so low the lines froze on her way to work...she swore she'd never let it get that low again...until I went to the store a week later and the gas light was on, heh.
