I went to start my 97 Mountaineer V8 awd and it didn't start right away and popped out though the intake a little. Tryed again and it fired up and now has a vacuum sucking noise under the intake towards the drivers side. I looked around some but really couldn't see much. Is something under the upper intake disconnected? It hasn't triggered the check engine but I'm sure it will if I keep driving it. I'm 99% sure its vacuum related, are the intake gaskets prone to failure? Help....

I did recently install an adapter and K&N style filter. But why would it have the noise under the uper intake manifold on the driver's side if that was it? I guess I'll pull the upper off tommorow and check it out.

I found it! Over on the driver's side near the oil dipstick and fuel lines a plug came off. I plugged it back in and it runs fine. I also noticed the line by the throttle body is plugged too. What are they for?

No, it was a line just under the upper intake that I couls see and reach between the firewall and oil dipstick, behind the fuel lines.

Had same exact poblem with a 96 Explorer 5.0 Cap was probably loose and was blown off. Tried to see if any hose was attahed to this fitting, but found none. Placed new rubber cap over fitting (89 cents) and car runs great!
