Just a shot in the dark... Have your alternator tested. It can affect the electronic transmission if it is going bad or doing strange things.
I third the IAC for the stalling problem by the way... and who knows what else the IAC could affect as well.

Your mechanic is not gonna do any better then you are and he;s just gonna charge you for his time. try cleaning the IAC and the MAS first....
Driveability problems like this one cost a ton of $$$ to diagnose, and then when they "fix" it it usally ends up being something else and comes back, they drive ot for like 2 miles, it doesnt happen again, and they call it fixed, take your money, and send you out the door only to have the problem happen again down the road....
just my experience, I would rather know why the problem is there myself then have the flippin mechanic tell me whatever he wants.......

ok.. its at the mechanic now, when i talked to him at 12 he said he didnt feel anything at all.... but i sent him out with alittle more specific instructions on how to duplicate the problem... if i get the same results i will do all of the above suggestions to the extent of my capabilities.

Update...
still nothing... getting a tune up done; platinum plugs motorcraft wires... tranny fluid and filter changed...going to run premieum gas for a little while also... see what happens after i get it back tomorrow... i will start at the top of the list if its still doing it...

why premium gas? if you're worried about your injectors, just run another bottle of cleaner. higher octane doesn't do anything for you unless you have a chip or other power mods that make it necessary.

No! Premium CAN do bad things. It can lead to carbonization in the combustion chambers, which can lead to knocking. Especially on the 4.0 OHV engine. Very common problem.
I'm also saying IAC on the A/C making it stall thing.
Oh, and can you say post padding for two certain moderators? LOL (and here we fuss at members to learn to use PMs)

Plugs and wires are a good idea with 70k. I repeat that premium gas won't to anything good. If you think you have a bad tank of gas, then any good gas will mix with it and make it better.

have you checked the battery terminal?
Also have you checked the torque on your lower intake bolts??
First thing I would do (tune up never hurts either!!) is clean the IAC and the MAS, reset the battery. Then check the lower intake bolts.
I wouldnt rule anything out yet, but your problem is not likely the 02 sensor or similar since it is so intermittant and you are not setting any codes.
The loose lower intake can cause symptoms similar to yours and is also very common (as you know!!) All signs really point to the IAC getting loaded up with carbon deposits.....also the 4.0L hates FRAM fuel filters, so if thats what you installed last year dont rule that out at all.......
