I'm doing a 5.0 swap into my 97 Sport currently. I've got a full engine, trans, t-case, harness, computer and everything from a donor 97 4dr. I already knew that trans was junk, and I didn't want to use the AWD t-case. The motor once dug into doesn't need a full rebuild... just some bearings and rings... Wish i could afford to upgrade the power but just can't afford it right now. So I got a replacement AODE/W with less than 10k on it. Then picked up a BW1345 from a 89 F150. So far everything is going relatively easily...

V8

I just bought one with a V8 already in it.
But from my experience the 4.6ltr sohc V8 motors i in the 2002 ford explorer XLT 4WD wagon V8 with 270.000kms and rebuild gear box and new genie Cadillac converters this motor is sounding great but is always breaking down and is not very reliable at all .and after mean brake downs .I am considering doing motor swap for Ford 1972 xy 302 Windsor in it so it more reliable and fixable at home .?what do you think or can you suggest a better conversation

welcome to EF! the 4.6 2vs are one of the best motors imo, very little common issues. what has failed on yours? the 302s are also one of the most reliable motors imo, and are simpler than the modulars. thats just about the only benefit for the engine is simplicity, you lose power etc. imo the tranny could leave a little to be desired, as you have the 5r55s as opposed to the 4r70w behind the 5.0. but as far as engine, not much difference. the 2vs were found in the crown vics, and they have proven themselves to be very solid motors! cant really go wrong either way with both the 5.0 and the 4.6 imo, only benefit may be the simplicity, and 4r70w imo. other than that you lsoe some power.

It had gear box problem at first so rebuild that .$6000 and then senser after sender failed it want take fuel .keeps click off ever after change fuel neck . Plugs where falling and drove few miles to shop and it blocked callicac converter and had to replace all three .$2000 .and now week later it sounds like tapest or a lifter hast gone on one side of there motor .

huh. thats unusual! wonder if you got a bad luck motor... that doesnt usually happen. what caused the cats to clog? usually theres an underlying issue that helps the rest of it. but by all means, you can swap to a 302... or a 7.3 diesel ;) ;) ;) ;) the 302 may not be quite as plug and play as in the 2nd gen though, as 2nd gens had the 302 as an option, and for 3rd gen everything got redisigned for the 4.6, so do be aware of that.:D

not 100% sure which is the question its all in quotes, but if youre asking about an oil change, it could help it! how many miles on the oil? i wonder if there is an underlying issue that cuases the cats to foul, however. also, in case, heres a link to the 7.3 swap!! 2004 Explorer with 7.3 Powerstroke Swap

;) ;) ;)
