First of all, Great site with great posts. Wish I found this sooner.. I have a 97 4dr AWD and plan to order a bodly lift kit to fit 32x11.5 or maybe 33x12.5. I already have the AAL/TT/shackles btw.

I need to keep the factory running boards on and don't want to modify the lower portion of the fender where the front tires would rub. I have not seen any setups like this with the running boards still on. Is it a problem or just not desired for the offroad?

Also, as far as the BL kits go with the above in mind, are there extra parts to install for the 3" that the 2" doesn't need like steering extensions / etc? Is it worth the hassle for an extra inch or is it a must to get the tire clearance? Thanks for the tips / knowledge! ~Lee

Lee.. go with the 3". It not really anymore hassle than the 2". Plus if you want to keep your boards, you'll probably need all the height you can get.

Right now I have the same lift you're talking about and I could easily put my boards back on if I wanted to. So I'm sure you can run 32's with your runningboards. I just took mine off for looks and clearance for offroading (and I knew they would just get damaged anyways).

If you have anymore questions just ask! Welcome to the forum! :D

Thanks man, I printed a picture of your ride to motivate me and got some cool info from your site- Sweet ride, I have the same color as you too. What is the part # / MFG / source for that 3" kit you have? Gotta get it on order, just hope the wife dosen't get POed. Shes only 5' ...heh heh heh

Hey.. thanks! :D

Here is a link to the kit I used:

Its the PER853-3 one.

Good luck! And when you do the lift.. there's a notch on the drivers side of the radiator you'll have to hack off. You'll see what I'm talking about when you do it. Just don't be afraid to cut it.. cause it's gotta be done! :D

Just to let you know though, the stock running boards are not very strong. You can't jack from them and they can't otherwise support the truck. Meaning: if you come down on a rock with them, they'll be bent and could possibly block and/or damage your doors.

Seen it done.
