Rust Problems

I need some help on how to fix these that I will post the pics of. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

you can 1/2 ass it and stuff Bondo Hair (or equal substance) in there. or you can do it the right way and cut out the rust and weld new metal in.

i have learned from doing both, save your self the hassle, Weld new metal in!!

Okay, my dad is a welder, I could have him to do it for me. So how can we weld new metal in? Thanks for helping me out!

I have an idea. I want to paint bedliners along the fender flares, and on the doors too. I have the picture to give y'all an idea.

Look at number 33. I want to do something like that, but I don't want to paint it on the hood and the bumpers. just the fender flares and the doors. The pictures that I took of my rust problems is still the same. I am wondering what I can do without bonding it all. Please give me some tips.

If you don't at bare minimum remove the current rust , it'll keep rusting even with bed liner on it.


The very bare minimum you should do is cut off or grind down the rust with a drill and a a wire brush attachment then apply the bed liner. However , bondo isn't hard at all and you might as well use it while you got the rust cleaned up , it has the consistency of tooth paste and you just smear it on , only takes maybe one or two hours to dry then you sand it smooth and paint right over it.

if you just paint or put benliner on top of the rust it flakes off fast.

I've decided to use the bondo and get it fixed. I am wondering what I need to look out for or what kind of tips to do it right. It will be my first time bondoing my truck, so I'm kinda nervous on using bondo bc I dont want to mess it up.

I really like the Line X work on that blazer (the blazer itself, not so much--was a waste of Line X....)

I would really like to have something like that done, a local Line X shop quoted $180-230 just do the bumper... A little out of my price range. Would hate to even ask them how much to paint the flares and sides like the blazer.

well.... i finally gave up on my Explorer. I'm going to sell it, because i just got a 1995 Toyota 4Runner SR5... had a nice run with the explorer though!

DSpease-sorry to hear you jumped over to the dark side, but after seeing your pics I would say you may have done the right thing. Sheet metal is a little thin on Toyotas but cant beat the reliability.
