I thought there was post on this awhile back ,but i can't find it! The mounting bolts for the rear hatch glass is rusting and leaving rusty streak marks on the glass. What can I use to clean it off without damaging the glass?

Bump

steel wool might work

That would probably work but I'm hoping it won't scratch the glass. I did some more searching and found another thread where sand paper and fine grit rubbing compound were recommended. Since I have some fine grit sandpaper on hand I'll give that a try first and report back.

I'm going to try Ammonia. Full strength, I tried a little last night and it removed most of it, but I need to scrub more.

<EDIT> Screw that- look at post 17... My much better solution....

Try this.
WEIMAN Glass Cook Top Cleaner
It cleans those glass top stoves without scratching. Just tried it on my rear window streaks and it is the bomb. Quick and easy and no scratches.

Try Flitz

or some other metal polish.(metal glow) I used Flitz on mine. worked great.

I just used a razor blade and the regular glass cleaner.

Great ideas, I will try them all. I tried 1500 grit sandpaper yesterday wet and dry. It removed it but scuffed up the glass so I stopped. I may also try some Ajax.

Just get a rag and some outdoor Rust-Aid. Takes it right off. I do this regularly when they start to rust again.

You could probably use any Rust-Aid, I just use the outdoor one because that's what we use around the house (live by the beach) when we get those rust stains and stuff.

It's pretty effortless. I just dab the rag in it and start scrubbing; it comes off pretty easily. You could probably use wax or polish or something to keep the rust from coming back, but I'm not sure.

are there aluminum mounting bolts available..? I remember reading something about it a while ago

I'm not sure. But I'd be interested in those if there are any, so long as they're not ridiculously expensive.

I'm home from college for a few days, and tomorrow I'm planning on taping off (or taking off, depending on what I feel like) and hitting them with some sandpaper, then primer and some Rustoleum. We'll see how it goes. :)

whink rust stain remover. there is a video by Joe Dirt on the forums about it. or youtube it.

Sweet, thanks for the link guys! Joe's video has convinced me so think I'll give it a shot if I can find it around here.
