My truck has black running boards and they are rusting where the sections are joined, it is just at the surface so I can sand it out but what should I use to match the original paint.
I think most standard paints wouldn't look "right" so any ideas.
Thanks

Well, mine had cheap running boards on it when I bought it, and I was glad, because this saved the paint over the years and it doesn't have any stone chips.

But after the first offroading experience, they looked like an upside down U. They were the low point on the truck, and therefore took a beating. I also got stuck in the snow last winter and it was really hard digging under the running boards with a shovel.

So, to make a long story short, I just took the darn things off and am glad I did. The truck looks alot better now (looks higher), and is more practical.

This was my solution, I am not sure if you still want to keep yours, but this worked for me.

If you want to keep them, I would suggest painting the whole things, as opposed to just the bad spots. Would look much better. Use some sort of primer/rust inhibitor first.

if there are ford running boards take it to ford and get the paint. i had to do that but mine was under warranty and they had to replace them ($600) free. so keep that figure in mind!

98 sport running boards

does anyone know what the corrosion warranty is for the grey nerf bars that caome stock on the sport?

IAMCDN is right.....you should just take them off. It actually does look higher and better.

i had mine on my 99 replaced free cause it was under warranty i had the same prob. it might be still under warranty, but i doubt it, just depends on when your X was made.

I need the running boards because I have to take my grandma shopping every other week and she needs them to get in and out.
They are the stock running boards with explorer on the grooved step part. I guess I'll try to get the paint from the dealership and sand it out then paint.
