The outside edge of my rims have been rusting for some time and even when it was still in warrenty. The dealer kept painting them to "fix" the problem. Well, after the 2nd paint job on the, they said that if it happened again, they would repace the rims with something different. Well, now that I got 36600 on there, still got my rusty rims and they want to replace them with the exact same time of wheel! uhg! Ford customer service hasn't been any help. Any suggestions on how to keep the new ones from facing the same problem? I would like to get some alloys from a XLT or Ranger, but no luck so far.

Do you rub curbs alot? You might be scraping off the paint ....

no scraping required...rusts right thru the cheap paint they put on there. The chrome wheel cover part is fine, its the outside rim of the it that causes the problem.

Mine are doing the same thing.....

Mine too, I can see in parts where the clear coat is coming off, and that is where the rust is beginning to form. I was pretty upset when I did a little detailing the other day and noticed that the rims on a 2000 are already falling apart visually.

get the new wheels and install about 2-3 coats of clear on em before mounting em up.
